    This soup is a hit with the entire family. I made it many times this winter and would freeze half the batch to just keep eating it on busy weeknights.

    Didn’t love this as much as others seemed to. Good but not great. Did not love the shredded potatoes. Would try next time adding small cubed potatoes.

    I made a couple of adjustments, primary being I used 1 carton (4 cups) beef stock and 6 cups of water. Made for a very rich flavor. Also, I don't mind mush veggies in soup, so I just threw everything in the pot at the start, rather than later. Except the barley, that I added last hour. I'm lazy that way.

    Was a little bland, so I added garlic powder, onion powder, and seasoned salt. Also thickened it up a little with flour and water, because I like a thicker soup.

    I’ve made this so many times. It is so good. The only thing I suggest is to add a couple bay leaves at the beginning of cooking. They add a great earthiness to it. But I add them to most my stuff so it might just be me. I have also made it adding cabbage and it is very hearty and yummy.

    I did the slow cooker method. Tasted it half way through and it was very bland so I add some tomato paste and tomato soup and parsley. It was much better so I would have to say without it was a low, low number, but with the additions I give it a 8.

    Make it once a month feeds us for a week 😊 added whatever veg was in the fridge & barley & lentil mix as it was in the cupboard

    we ate half and froze half. It was just as good if not better the next week out of the freezer. The whole family loved it.

    When I can get meat on sale, I make this soup. This is such a satisfying, easy and delicious soup! Family loves it!
